We are Helping People Return to Driving
We are Helping People Return to Driving

Since 2005, when a swimming pool accident crushed her C5 vertebrae and left her a quadriplegic, Annie Streit has been undergoing outpatient therapy at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana.  She also has been licensed to drive a fully handicapped adapted van for over two years.

Unfortunately, in order to complete the evaluation to determine the vehicle adaptations and number of training hours she needed, Annie had to travel to Atlanta, GA because the proper equipment was only available at a company there.  After completing the evaluation, Annie was able to locate a company in Evansville, IN where she could complete her required hours of training and become licensed to drive.

“The limited locations where the proper adapted equipment and training are available makes it extremely difficult for people like me to secure the ability to drive again,” says Annie.  “I fortunately had the ability to travel to complete my training, but many people who are interested in driving again do not have those means.  RHI is a logical place to offer this program because of its central location and the number of patients annually treated there.”
