2008 Athlete Highlights

 

Tournaments!

This year we partnered with the Indianapolis Community Tennis Association to host 14 teams at the 2008 Indianapolis Run & Roll Tennis Championships and RHISP’s Indy Quad Squad hosted seven other quad rugby teams at the 2008 RHI “Indy Fall Braw” tournament.  Also this year, RHISP’s Indy Thunder beep baseball team for the visually impaired and blind, hosted 5 teams from across the Midwest at the 2008 RHI “Indy Thunder Beep Baseball Tournament.”

 

 

 

Team Progress!

In 2008, the RHI Mini-Pacers youth basketball team celebrated their second year of competition with a total of 16 rostered players and  RHISP’s  Sudden Impact power soccer team won the 2008 Division 1 Power Soccer National Championship!

 


 

Josh Swoverland brings home precious metals!

Our fastest athlete, Josh Swoverland won a constellation of racing medals. At the National Junior Disability Championships he took 1st place in the 200, 400, 800 and 5000 meter racing competitions. At the Junior World Games he took the Silver medal in the 200 meter sprint, and bronze in the 100, 400, 800, 1500, and 5000. Josh --at 16-years of age made the finals in the 200, 400, 800, and 5000 at the 2008 Paralympic Trials and placed 4th in the 100m.

 

 

 

Dan Reed gets all wet

Dan Reed took the water ski world by storm by nabbing the 2008 Water Skiing National Championship title as well as the Silver Medal in the Men’s Overall; the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Slalom and was selected for the US Disabled Water Ski Team.  Dan will represent RHISP and the USA at the 2009 World Championships in Vichy, France!

 


 

Jon Mize hits a bulls eye

Meanwhile, Jon Mize, a long time member of the RHISP’s Racing Team and Youth Track and Field Coach spent 2008 competing on the national archery circuit.  His results:  1st place at the Indiana State Indoor Archery Championships, second place  at the 2008 National Archery Triple Crown, and Nationally ranked 2nd, by the International Bow Hunting Organization.

 



 

Audie Kemp…SWISH!

Audie Kemp, Coach of the RHI Pacers and Vice President of the RHI Team Development Committee was named to the 2008 National Wheelchair Basketball Association’s All-Star Team, among his other accomplishments.
